"Dot MD" is the first Internet vanity domain. The company www.Register.md has sold web addresses ending in .md to 10,000 medical professionals. That suffix had belonged to the former Soviet republic of Moldova. To gain rights to Moldova's official code, Register.md agreed to pay its government 10 percent of registration fees it collects.
