The Congressional Budget Office says the Bipartisan Managed Care Improvement Act would boost employer premiums 4 percent. The Health Insurance Association of America says the CBO "grossly underestimates" liability-induced cost increases.... HMO enrollment will exceed 100 million by 2002, predicts InterStudy Publications. Annual membership growth will average about 5 percent — lower than in previous years because of market saturation and higher premiums.... American Healthways has published the first standards for disease management companies. Intended to help buyers evaluate vendors' offerings, the standards stress physician support, adherence to clinical guidelines, and outcomes measurement, among others.... "Dot MD" is the first Internet vanity domain. The company www.Register.md has sold web addresses ending in .md to 10,000 medical professionals. That suffix had belonged to the former Soviet republic of Moldova. To gain rights to Moldova's official code, Register.md agreed to pay its government 10 percent of registration fees it collects.
