Health savings accounts develop the mystique of a winning product
Two out of three Americans say they would be "extremely," "very", or "somewhat interested" in having health savings accounts (HSAs), which were launched January 1 as part of Medicare reform, according to a new survey.
Destiny Health Plan, a 30,000-member insurer in Illinois, surveyed 1,008 adults between January 22 and 25. Only 12 percent of respondents said that they are not very interested; 19 percent say that they are not interested at all.
Destiny was launched in 2000 but its parent company, Discovery Health, is an international health insurance company with more than 1.5 million members and 10 years experience.
The survey bolsters the contention of many in managed care that the portability of the HSA will make it as big a seller as another employer benefit offering: the 401(k).
