Amazon Effect? Former Health Care Adversaries Team Up

Aetna wants to combine with CVS Health and the Cleveland Clinic is teaming up with Oscar Health. Two developments that Managed Care’s covered (here and here). The New York Times today says that the joining of health plans, providers, and national drug store chains reflects the growing uncertainty about just what the future holds in health care.

“Former adversaries are banding together, girding against upheaval in a rapidly changing health care environment,” the Times reports. “They are also bracing for the threats posed by interlopers like Amazon eyeing a foray into the pharmacy business or tech companies offering virtual medical care via a computer or cellphone.”
