GOP Senate Panel Discusses Subsidies With Blue Cross Blue Shield Officials

All parties agree on this: A decision will need to be made soon. The Senate Health Care Working Group today met with Blue Cross Blue Shield officials to discuss what the Senate needs in its health care legislation to ensure that plans participate and offer affordable benefit packages, according to the Hill.

The Trump administration made the subsidy payments this month, but hasn’t decided whether to continue. Insurers need to know. Sen. John Thune, the panel’s chairman, tells the Hill that a decision needs to be made shortly.

“You've got to have a plan that provides stability in the marketplace for the short term. The one thing I think we don’t want to have is insurance companies that have already built those in [for 2018 plans] — if all of a sudden those are taken away you’re going to see some pretty significant plan increases.”
