As the worlds of business and medicine become more intertwined, physicians who pursue advanced degrees in business are rewarded financially. Among members of the American College of Physician Executives surveyed by Cejka & Co., a St. Louis-based consulting and search organization, median incomes for doctors with business-oriented master's degrees were higher than those of physicians without them. One exception: Executives with masters of public health degrees had lower incomes than those with no business degree at all!
While Cejka views business degrees as a “tie-breaker” for physicians today who seek CEO or medical director jobs, Cejka suggests that within 10 years these credentials won't be extra–they will be required.
