The Mayo Clinic, which is teaming up with Google to ramp up its AI and data analytics efforts, is hiring John Halamka, MD, the high-profile Harvard professor and health care IT expert.
Stat reported this week that Halamka will be leaving Beth Israel Lahey Health in Boston to become president of Mayo Clinic Platform. His appointment will take effect Jan. 1.
Halamka announced on Twitter that he will also be resuming his well-regarded blog, Dispatches from the Digital Health Frontier.
"Although I've visited Mayo many times, I've just scratched the surface in my understanding of the culture, capabilities, and colleagues," he wrote this morning.
Halamka wrote that he plans to live in Rochester four days a week and fly home to the Boston area for three-day weekends. He runs a farm animal sanctuary in suburban Boston with his wife.
