Fewer employers sponsor retiree health benefits

A Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation study indicates large and medium-size employers are slowly moving away from providing retiree health benefits. Those continuing to offer supplemental Medicare coverage employ cost-control strategies, such as charging premiums or using dollar caps, more frequently than in years past. The study also reveals a strong trend toward use of managed care for retiree benefit offerings.
