Employers take greater interest in managing chronic conditions

Employers face major decisions on how (and whether) they will offer health care plans to their employees. Hewitt Associates, a large human resources outsourcing and consulting firm, surveyed 448 executives to identify current health care trends and trends that will influence the workplace over the next three to five years.

The Road Ahead: Emerging Health Trends 2007 identified two groups of employers: those who are likely to continue on their current course of managing costs primarily by changing plan designs and those who believe that more employer involvement in health and health care is needed.

Respondents in the 2007 survey show a significant increase (37 percentage points) in profiling the chronic conditions prevalent in their workforce. The results reflect a continued interest in managing health improvement and workforce health.
