One of the positions that Warren Surveys looked at when it tracked the salaries of 266 titles at over 500 HMO and managed care companies was pharmacy services manager.
Description: "Responsible for managing the drug formulary, drug information systems, pharmaceutical contracting, and staff supervision in a manner that will assure a consistently cost-effective and quality pharmacy program for plan members."
Here is what pharmacy service managers are paid in different areas of the country at different-sized health plans. The salaries are based on data collected as of Feb. 1, 2001.
In terms of median salary vis-a-vis health plan size, pharmacy service managers at plans with 200,001 to 500,000 members generally made a better living, than those at plans in the 500,001 to 1 million, and 1 million-plus categories. Managers in the smallest plans had the highest salaries.
*Due to a low number of plans contributing for this particular category, Warren Surveys suppressed the 10th and 90th percentile to protect confidentiality.
