The high cost of drugs worries Americans so much that a majority would favor polices that would give the federal government more control over the situation, according to a poll released this morning by the Kaiser Family Foundation. Two-thirds of Americans (66%) would like to see the creation of an independent group that would oversee prescription drug prices, and about 8 in 10 Americans (82%) say that the federal government should negotiate directly with drug companies for drugs provided under Part D plans. Seventy-eight percent want Uncle Sam to limit how much drug companies can charge for very costly drugs for diseases like hepatitis and cancer. There is also widespread support for drug companies to disclose how they set their prices, and allowing Americans to buy prescription drugs imported from Canada.
